Oct 28, 2006
Figures released by the Office of National Statistics last week show that the average weekly income in the UK is now £447, an increase of 3.7% over the past 12 months.
This prompted a review of household income and costs by UK Finance Online which illustrated some interesting trends.
These new figures put the annual household income in the UK at £23,244 which translates to a 50% increase over the past ten years. Over the same period council tax has risen by 80%, average mortgages have risen by 170% and average house prices have risen 187%. Together with this year's 38% rise in gas prices and 27% rise in electricity prices, more and more households in the UK are struggling to make ends meet.
